Learning objectives
By the end of this course you will able to:
- Assess the physical, biomechanical and technical needs of sport as they relate to sporting performance and injury prevention.
- Understand the concepts of movement efficiency as they relate to optimal sporting performance and pathoaetiology of injury.
- Assess movement efficiency in an athlete, and develop an individualised athlete programme to improve movement efficiency deficits.
- Understand how an athlete “Performance Profile” is developed and how sports physiotherapists contribute to this process.
- Devise appropriate strategies and tools for assessing factors that influence performance and injury risk, integrating sport-specific theoretical knowledge with evidence-based physiotherapeutic reasoning and skills and collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Understand methods and terms used to measure injury rates in sport, and be able to interpret their results to inform development of injury prevention priorities.
- List and describe the interventions used to optimise performance and to minimise the risk of injury in sport, describing the rationale for their use and how their effectiveness is evaluated and reviewed.
